What is Damping?
Basically, dampings most commonly have to do with electrical or mechanical devices and reducing excess noise. This term describes the capacity that is built into these devices to "dampen" or prevent over-correction, which could cause instability or oscillatory sound.
Take a sound booth for instance, they use sound proofing to allow the sounds coming from the singer or instruments to be recorded without the sound waves bouncing or echoing off the walls and causing incorrect or poor recordings.
This technique is also used in car sub-woofer and stereo setups. Speaker box damping provides better quality base and sound because it reduces the amount of vibration caused by the sound waves and your music won't be competing with other sounds such as rattling.
Vibration damping is quickly becoming very important and more relevant as we progress. With increasing population and decreasing space, you can even find damping in building structures to help reduce the noises you may hear from the neighbors or right outside your window.
